As the “ambassador to the Jigsaw Community,” I get the daily pleasure of receiving some very amusing outreach emails from random misguided consumers. For the most common ones I either respond with a pre-written email (eg “no, you can’t buy puzzles from Jigsaw,” or “Jigsaw is not the HR department of ABC Company” or “Please contact the police about a fight you saw at Denny’s”) or route them to the circular file. But every once in a while I quickly draft a response and send it out to Jigsaw employees for fun. Here is an example from a while ago- don’t worry, I changed the name:

Dear Mr. Smith (“ds”):
Thank you for your interest in partnering with Jigsaw.
Your inquiry, although brief, succinctly, tells me everything I need to know as the founder of a 90 person-company that we simply must enter into a professional relationship. Jigsaw’s 800,000 members come from around the world, but a high concentration of our 12 million contacts come from companies in North America- so the fact that you (or your company?) are located in San Diego provides an excellent common reference point. You “love to make money,” which fits in with Jigsaw’s stated revenue goals as a for profit corporation. Your willingness to “help, too” cements the perfect profile of someone that I need to contact immediately-before one of our competitors scoops you up!.
Please return my email with your address in San Diego, so I can arrange for transportation for a meeting with you post haste.
Sincerely,
Garth Moulton
VP of Community and Co-Founder

OK-Busted- it was a busy week and I didn’t get around to putting a lot of thought into a post.
P.S. Jigsaw finally has listened to what the majority of our customers have been clamoring for and will soon announce an automated data solution called Data Fusion . This combines an all-you-can-use plan for sales prospecting (Jigsaw Unlimited) with automated daily cleaning and maintenance of CRM records. Short of coming out to your office and picking who you are going to call next, Jigsaw has done everything humanly possible to complete the contact research part of prospecting. Now pick up the phone and sell!
